Bettys & Taylors has a supply chain that spans the globe – from Yorkshire farmers who supply the ingredients for our Tea Rooms, to the estates and small holdings in the tropics that provide the tea and coffee for our blends. We see our suppliers as one of our most important stakeholders and we’re committed to strong, long-term ethical relationships with all our suppliers, based on quality and fair terms of trade.
Our tea and coffee buyers spend many months a year visiting estates, farms and co-operatives. Our approach to buying –Taylors Sourcing Approach – is based on collaboration. We work in close partnership with our suppliers to build contracts, improve quality and find solutions to sustainability issues and the challenges that impact the people we buy from.
We recognise the role that transparency can play in helping create more resilient and sustainable supply chains. Being open about where we buy from and how we buy can help us to work together constructively and positively to drive progress against the standards we seek. You can find more information about our Yorkshire Tea and Taylors coffee supply base with supplier listings here, and more information on how we work with our suppliers at our Taylors Impact site.
Our tea and coffee is third-party certified to monitor social and environmental standards, and we invest in projects and partnerships which work to improve the lives and communities of those we trade with. We’re honoured to have been recognised for our commitment to creating a sustainable tea and coffee supply chain with a 2017 Queen’s Award for Enterprise.
With the Covid-19 crisis having an immediate impact on our global supply chain, we’ve made five commitments to our suppliers, offering them some certainty in these uncertain times. These include a commitment to honour long-term agreements and contracts, support with payment terms and access to credit if needed, and the establishment of a global Emergency Relief Fund. More information can be found here.
While tropical commodities form the backbone of our Taylors business, Bettys supports local sourcing, tapping into the rich food and farming heritage on our doorstep.
