Honoured with a Queen’s Award for Sustainable Development

Our family business is delighted and honoured to have been awarded our fourth Queen’s Award for Enterprise in the Sustainable Development category.

We have a long history of trading responsibly, but in the last five years we’ve built on our strong foundations to further embed and progress our approach in the face of ever-increasing challenges such as climate change and rural poverty. Our latest award honours this continued commitment and leadership in supporting the long-term sustainability of our global tea and coffee supply chain.

Thanks to Taylors Sourcing Approach (TSA) and our use of long-term contracts, we have developed a way of buying which enables us to build the supply chain we want and need for the future, while also working on a range of social and environmental projects to support future sustainability, for everyone’s benefit.

Our size means we can often act more quickly than others. For example, we were the first tea and coffee company to be transparent about its supply base, and the first to establish Covid-19 Commitments. The value of this approach was especially clear in how we were able to adapt and partner effectively with our key suppliers throughout the pandemic as well as continuing to source our quality tea and coffee reliably.

We have also continued to work with key industry partners through leadership positions in organisations such as the Ethical Tea Partnership (ETP) and World Coffee Research, to influence and drive improvements, as well as We have also collaborated more widely to pool resources for greater impact. One example of this is our work with the ETP and UNICEF supporting a landmark project tackling issues affecting women and children on tea estates in Assam, including child protection, gender equality, health and sanitation, and education.

We know that the journey is far from over and there is still more to be done.

This award recognises that while we can’t claim to have the answers and will always have much more to do, we remain deeply committed and serious in our intent to support the sustainability of our global supply chain.
