Edie’s 30 under 30

Edie is an industry-leading media company that helps businesses become more sustainable through publications, case studies, events and awards. Earlier this year Kathryn Patchett, Taylors Product Sustainability Specialist, was recognised in their inaugural ‘30 Under 30’, an initiative which recognises bright and ambitious rising sustainability and energy stars from across the UK.

Kathryn joined the business after studying for a masters in International Development at the University of Manchester. After stints in export sales and production planning, Kathryn joined Taylors sustainability team to focus on the full lifecycle impact of Taylors products, covering everything from sourcing packaging and product design, to operations, and how customers deal with products and packaging at the end-of-life stage.

Part of Kathryn’s role has been working alongside our R&D team, mapping out plastics use in all of Taylors packaging and identifying where alternatives could be explored. This led to Taylors signing the UK Plastics Pact, a collaborative initiative which brings together manufacturers, retailers, NGOs and government to create a circular economy for plastics.

As Kathryn says: “we want our packaging to be as recyclable, reusable and compostable as possible. There are no easy fixes, and we want to make the right decisions for the environment in the long-term without having unintended negative consequences or putting product quality at risk. Several of our projects have two-to-three-year timescales, but I’m looking forward to them coming to fruition.”
