Sourcing
Bettys & Taylors has a supply chain that spans the globe; from local Yorkshire farmers who supply the ingredients for our Tea Rooms, to the farms in the tropics that provide the tea, coffee and cocoa for our products. We are committed to strong, long-term ethical relationships with all our suppliers, based on quality and fair terms of trade.
Our tea and coffee buyers spend many months a year visiting estates, farms and co-operatives. By taking the time to work directly with farmers, we can ensure we're buying the best and paying sustainable prices so that suppliers can continue to invest in their farms for the future. We're also committed to improving social and environmental standards, working with third party certification schemes, including the Fairtrade Foundation, Rainforest Alliance and Utz.
Just one example of how we're improving standards is our work in Rwanda. We have invested in a three year project match-funded by the UK Government's Food and Retail Industry Challenge Fund (FRICH), which has helped improve tea quality and livelihoods for 10,000 tea growers and their families. The environment has also been protected through tree planting, recycling and wetlands projects.
While tropical commodities form the backbone of our Taylors business, Bettys is committed to local sourcing. All dairy, meat and poultry are sourced from within the Yorkshire region. In the last year we've increased our local flour purchases from 3% to 50%.
