Charity & Community
As a Yorkshire family business we play an active role in the local and regional community, supporting charities, working with schools and community groups, and promoting environmental awareness and recycling. Here are just a few of the ways that this works in practice:
- Over the last five years our staff have raised over £180,000 for 42 charities that are close to their hearts. This is matched pound for pound by the business, with a team of staff charity co-ordinators distributing a further £180,000 in ‘Good Cause Awards’ to 220 small scale community projects and charities.
- Bettys Cookery School is dedicated to sharing our passion for food and cooking with adults and children alike. Our Cooking with Schools programme gives local primary and secondary pupils the opportunity to learn about food and practical cooking skills. Our Cooking for Schools website provides lesson ideas and advice on careers in food for teachers and pupils who are unable to visit in person. Bettys Bettys Cookery School
- Closer to home we work with local schools, community groups and social enterprises and other local businesses to collect waste materials that would otherwise go to landfill and find creative ways to re-use them, raising funds for charities at the same time. Our quirky community recycling facility known as the Cone Exchange, is run by our own recycling pirate Captain Rummage (otherwise known as Chris Powell, MBE) who helps local community groups and schools to turn ‘trash into treasure’.
